We are busy getting to know one anther better, reviewing classroom expectations, preparing our art portfolios, and all around getting reacquainted with the EMS art studio.
Eighth graders ended the quarter painting clouds. Not an easy thing to do!! Capturing shadows and light with acrylic paints takes a lot of skill. When the students were finished, the wrote short haiku's to go with their paintings. Here are some of the results. 7th graders were busy carving reduction prints. Here are some beautiful examples of their 3 layered birch tree prints.
Sixth graders recently finished these beautiful paintings. In a neurographic style, students painted their design, then added words that described themselves. In the end, they added bits of patterned paper to the overall compostion. After learning about the Korean American artist, Nam June Paik, students set about creating their own weird and wacky robots. Take a look at how creative our EMS student artists are.
8th grade artists finished creating these beautiful and evocative vases. Using an anthropomorphic style, students added faces and other human details to their red clay vases.
We celebrated Black History month over here in the art studio by listening to the Black Jazz musicians and painting to their music. Then we drew contour drawings of brass instruments and added these to the paintings. Additionally we used a variety of papers, and photographs of the musicians, to add yet another layer to these jazzy pieces.
Simple pinch pots became so much more when we added a base, and some facial features. These 7th grade planters are so much fun and a great example of the mind of a middle school art student. 6th Graders hand built these clay shields using slabs. Each time we do them I am amazed at how beautiful and personal they are! Students were busy layering a variety of texture and color to create these beautifully abstract and intuitive paintings.
